PIÙ GRANDE D’EUROPA

Abruzzo. 13 marzo 2007: il comando provinciale di Pescara della Forestale,
coordinato da Guido Conti, sequestra un terreno di 4 ettari di fronte alla sta-
zione ferroviaria di Bussi sul Tirino dove inizia il fiume Pescara. Dopo più di
un anno di indagini la procura esce allo scoperto e contesta reati gravissimi ad
una serie di indagati che hanno gravitato intorno allo storico polo industriale
di Bussi. Si scoprirà che nel terreno sono state intombate sostante altamente
tossiche per quasi 250.000 tonnellate. Una quantità immensa di veleni che -
secondo gli inquirenti- sono il risultato di decenni di sversamenti operati
almeno fino agli anni '90. Proprietaria del sito è la Montedison. I veleni a ridos-
so del fiume, si scoprirà, avevano contaminato pesantemente anche l'acqua
potabile distribuita ai Pescaresi e documenti confermano che gli enti pubblici
sapevano ma hanno taciuto. È la storia di pesanti crimini ambientali perpetra-
ti nel silenzio di una regione tranquilla. Quella storia sta faticosamente entran-
do nelle aule giudiziarie grazie ad un mega processo che però stenta a partire.

Abruzzo. 13 March 2007: the forest Headquartes of the Pescara province, coordi-
nated by Mr. Guido Conti, seizes a four hectares land in front of the train station of
“Bussi sul Tirino” where the Pescara river starts. After more than one year of inqui-
ries the Public Prosecutor’s office comes out and unveils very serious crimes concer-
ning a number of suspects placed around the historic industrial area of Bussi. I twill
be discovered that into the soil almost 250 000 tons of highly toxic substances have
been buried. A huge amount of poisons that – according to the investigators - repre-
sent the result of decades of dumpings operated at least up to the Ninenties, The owner
of the site is the Montedison. The poisons placed nearby the river, it will be discovered,
have heavily contaminated also the drinking water given to Pescara citizens and docu-
ments confirm the public administrations knew but decided the silence. It is the history
of serious environmental crimes implemented into the silence of a quiet Region. This
history is slowly entering into the courts thanks to a huge process. This history is now
slowing entering into the courts thanks to a mega-process not yet opened.
