Violence against women is a globally recognized plague that affects a wide part of the female gender,
provoking severe consequences relating to the victim’s personal, domestic and relational environment.
Intimate partner violence (IPV), a particular kind of domestic brutality, is one of the most common forms
of cruelty against women and includes physical, sexual and emotional abuse, as well as controlling beha-
viors from the dominant partner. In this essay we will give an update on the most recent literature in this
matter in order to provide definitions, data on the phenomenon in Italy, insights on personal and social
risk factors, highlighting, at the same time, the negative consequences of this particular form of cruelty
against women. Main changes to the Criminal and the Criminal Procedure Code will also be taken into
consideration, including the most recent evolutions introduced by the so-called “ Red Code”, regarding
domestic and gender-based violence. Finally, some considerations regarding two criminal violations related
to non-consensual pornography: the revenge porn and the deepfake.

14.Il Codice Rosso: nuove norme e pene più severe per combattere la
violenza sessuale, di genere e domestica
La legge n. 69/2019, nota come “Codice Rosso”, ha voluto da ultimo raf-
forzare la tutela delle vittime dei reati di violenza domestica e di genere, ina-
sprendone la repressione tramite interventi sul codice penale e sul codice di
procedura penale.
