IL MIELE: DALLA CURA DELLE
FERITE ALLA DIFESA DELLA
BIODIVERSITÀ

Il miele è utilizzato da millenni per svariate patologie, ma l’impiego meno
conosciuto e descritto dai Sumeri nel 2.200 a.C., è come medicamento per le
ferite, utilizzo che è continuato fino ai nostri giorni. Nell’articolo si
analizzano i principi attivi del miele nella guarigione di una ferita, intesa
soprattutto come contrasto alle infezioni causate da batteri
antibioticoresistenti, ma anche come potente riduttore del processo
infiammatorio, che ostacola la successiva neo angiogenesi. Si suggeriscono,
infine, potenziali prospettive future di tale prodotto in medicina,
sottolineando l’importanza della tutela dell’ambiente e della biodiversità in
tale ambito.

Honey has been used for thousands of years to treat various pathologies, but the less
known use described by the Sumerians in 2,200 BC is as a medication for wounds,
that has continued to the present day. The article analyzes the active principles of
honey in the process of wound healing, exspecially as a contrast to infections caused
by antibiotic-resistant bacteria, but also as strong inhibitor of the flogistic process,
which hinder the subsequent neoangiogenesis. Finally, potential future prospects
for this product in medicine are suggested, underlining the importance of protecting
the environment and biodiversity for this field.
