Department), where neither the Carabinieri nor the State Forestry Department
can be blamed but is clear that from the beginning we contrasted this reasoning
(obviously we will work intensely as to keep everybody involved) but we have
fought because in the Country, where politics doesn’t show any interest in kee-
ping in their Parliament and Government agenda such issues as nature, aware-
ness, environmental education. Certainly we appreciate the unease the State
Forestry Department officers may experience, even if just temporarily, in wea-
ring a different uniform.
We have some concern in this moment of transition just as it is happening
for the Provinces which were converted into other bodies and, as a consequen-
ce, of the 2600 Province Police officers, at least half have moved somewhere
else. I wonder who should continue monitoring those areas such as the Messina
strait where, after twenty years of intense activity with the Carabinieri Corps,
the State Forestry Department, all the Forces engaged, Province Police, Local
Police and volunteers we have managed to stop poachers.
After the good results we have achieved in the Tyrrhenian islands where
the poaching has been reduced (of course we must not let down our guard),
