luting utilisation of energy, the desertification, the funding of international terro-
rism with the indiscriminate use of energy are the fundamental issues that call into
question, as we were told yesterday by the scientists, the survival of our planet.

In order to face all this, we need an integrated, holistic, systematic, and
international approach. In order to fight criminal organisations in the food far-
ming and environment sector we need powerful structures, which are present
also, and above all, in international and supranational contexts. It is obvious
that the military organisation is more suitable in international and supranational
contexts when handling such problems.

The acceptance of military status, as later, and better than I can do, Generale
Del Sette will explain, not only will not imply any disadvantage for the Forestry
Department, but it will represent an indispensable tool to face those serious envi-
ronmental issues we have mentioned in the previous days. I ask my colleagues:
don’t you think our organisation was too small to face those challenges that have
now become so big? Didn’t we have serious difficulties, sometimes for a matter of
competence or jurisdiction, in handling effectively environmental issues in such
regions with Special Status as Sardegna, Sicilia or Friuli? We were even forced to
beg for a response from these Regions where there are serious issues with pollu-
tion and GM food which have a large impact on the economy and on the society.

Yesterday we clearly saw the epoch making challenges that are expecting
us. We can’t go back, my dear colleagues from the State Forestry Department,
but I wouldn’t like and definitely DO NOT want to go back: if we want to take
such a heavy task which is great at the same time and become the reference
which, with prevention and repression, characterises a developmental model
really handling the environmental protection we must merge with the
Carabinieri Corps. Indeed, and we must do it in the best manner. “The creation
of the Unit for the Protection of Forestry Environment and Food Farming will
be able to guarantee the development of a centre of excellence unique for the
extent of its mission and for its operative potentiality”.

All this is written in the document “Arma CC-CFS” (Carabinieri Corps-
State Forestry Department) published on our intranet sites. In the same docu-
ment we read” The merger of the functions of the State Forestry Department
with the Carabinieri Corps, will be followed by a significant change in the tra-
