Welcome address of Lt. Gen. Tullio Del Sette

Good Morning Everyone
A warm welcome from myself, from Ingegnere Cesare Patrone, from the
Commander of the Officer School, all Carabinieri, and, on behalf of the Head
of the Corps, from members of the State Forestry Department, to the gover-
nment ministers, Paolo Gentiloni, Gian Luca Galletti and Maurizio Martina, to
all our distinguished speakers and our esteemed guests, both those here in the
hall and those watching via video link.
Welcome, everyone, to our first International Conference on the
Environment, entitled ‘Man and the Environment: Global Challenges,
Conservation and Prospects for the Future’, which is taking place today and
tomorrow in this, the Great Hall of the Scuola Ufficiali (Carabinieri Officer
School). This is a conference which the two of us, Ingegnere Patrone and I,
with the strong and indispensable support of ministers Galletti and Martina in
particular, very much wanted to happen.
For us it is an event of great importance because it focuses on an issue
which is particularly close to our hearts, which we believe must be a priority for
legislators, governments and all the citizens of the world, an issue of funda-
mental importance for the present and future of humanity: the conservation
and protection of the environment.
A very sincere thank you to the many members of the Carabinieri and the
State Forestry Department, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of
Agriculture and Forestry, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International
Relations, for their organisation of the Conference, which I know has been
meticulous, in accordance with the three strands it is made up of. The first of
these is dedicated to the international situation, the second to the situation here
in Italy and the third to conservation and prospects for the future.
In the course of this morning, this afternoon and tomorrow, 35 speakers,
from Italy, Europe and the rest of the world, from institutions, the world of
science and from campaign groups, will speak, in Italian and English, about
issues of great importance and interest.
