This area could become another Pompei, in terms of tourism, of job
creation and of economic development. All this could bring wealth to that area
becoming the real alternative to the criminal subculture which thrives also on
the bad use of the territory.

Some time ago, we ran a campaign to persuade Ministro Bray, at the time
Minister of Cultural Heritage, and the secretary general to the Ministry of
Cultural Heritage, to let the strength of State be present again in the area called
“Terra dei fuochi”(part of the territory between Naples and Caserta). We per-
suaded the State to buy the “Reggia di Carditello”, the abandoned royal palace,
a place in decay, which would certainly trigger a process of rebirth for that area.

The whole project materialised. The Minister said to me: “I want to bring
and plant the flag of the State on the highest spire” and then, while conversing,
he said to me: “What is the function you imagine? “ I answered: “Well, Sir, the
first function I ask for is the opening of a Carabinieri Station inside the “Reggia
di Carditello”.

The Carabinieri of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit should be than-
ked for their work.
