sen. giuseppe Francesco maria marinello
With regard to this, the Commission that I have the honor to preside over
initiated public consultation.
This was the first case in Italy, concluded last March 31st, which was open
to citizens, regional authorities, companies, universities, research centers, and
governmental and non-governmental bodies who were invited to express their
thoughts on the package of directives through online questionnaires. On the
17th of May a conference will be held in the Senate to present the significant
results.
At the conclusion of this process, the Commission for the Environment
of the Senate will approve a resolution by the end of May which will be tran-
smitted to the European Commission; in the framework of political dialogue
it will constitute recommendations to the Government for Council negotia-
tions.
Companies and consumers are fundamental for the sustainable develop-
ment of resources, seeing as the latter require sustainable models of consum-
ption, just like the sustainable models of production and supply that the former
have to adopt. Equally, establishing a sustainable economic system must invol-
ve the action of law enforcement agents who are in the best position to prevent
and suppress environmental crime, since types of crime and ways to circum-
vent regulations in the sector are in constant evolution.
Therefore I would like to offer you my best wishes that the synergies that
the Carabinieri Corps and the State Forestry Department will know how to
deploy in the process of reorganizing those structures aimed at safeguarding
the Environment will allow for the development of potential to its fullest and
for the achievement of the most ambitious aims
I gladly welcome what was said by Minister Madia in his speech.
Parliament has always been particularly attentive, or better, the government has
always been particularly intelligent; as you all know the main characteristic of
human intelligence is its adaptability; the initial draft of the government mea-
sure aroused debate throughout the country but Parliament arrived at this
important result and, with confidence, we await the decrees for implementation
I believe that there all the conditions necessary to achieve our objective in
the best way possible and, as far as we are concerned, the best way possible is
