are discussing the environment, to highlight this work. In this reform in gene-
ral, but in particular in the part of the reform that centres on the Police Forces,
we started from our commitment to rationalise the structure by decreasing the
number of official bodies in our country. However it is also true that, by our
restructuring and the reorganisation of the chains of command, and thanks to
the hard proactive work of the various bodies and their leadership, we have
achieved an historical result, which strengthens the area of the environmental
protection and the food farming sector. Minister Martina says so very often and
very well: with this reform we provide Italy with a stronger structure for the
safeguarding of our countryside, our environment and our food supply chain
and it’s not by chance that we have chosen to converge and absorb the State
Forestry Department into the Carabinieri Corps. It has been a controversial
choice, opposed by some political forces. The Carabinieri Corps - thanks to
their organisational and operative structure, very extensive in the territory – was
the most suitable police force to realise this vision.
