Then there is a topic linked to bioenergy. It is not clear up to what point
biomass-fired power plants can be satisfied by our forestry asset. The Regions
grant authorisations but do we really have a clear general picture of how much
biomass has been used for the future production of energy? This is a topic we
must discuss.

I am now approaching my conclusion that fundamentally is the request to
work all together for the safeguard of an asset which provides very important
services to our Country. However, I have some concerns for the fact that we
do not have a national control room related to the forestry policies. This is,
indeed, something I would like all of us to reflect on.

Forests are a national asset. Regions have certainly reasons to choose their
policies but these policies should be coordinated, above all in view of the fact
that forests are a strategic asset for our Nation. The US President, Mr Obama,
declared that climate protection is a national security issue. As a consequence
all the activities related to the mitigation and adaptation to the climate, such as
forests, should be considered as an asset for the security of our Country.
