                                                                                  Officers).  Other  tasks,  as
                                                                                  public  order  management,
                                                                                  are      considered      as
                                                                                  secondary  tasks.  Also,  the

            The       relevance       of
            intelligence and information
            gathering  capabilities,  as
            well  as  similar  operational
            skills,  is  stressed  and  a
            professional  related  pre-
            deployment FPU training is
            strongly    remarked      as
            necessary.          Training
            activities  must  be  planned
            and  conducted  not  only
            prior to deployment but also
            throughout the course of the
            mission.     These      two
            functions – intelligence and
            training   –   are   clearly   Female personnel of Rwanda FPU contingent
            considered  crucial  for  the
            safety of the FPU, as well as for the fulfillment of the assigned UN mandate.
            A very important innovation is the possibility that, under specific conditions and with the approval
            of  the  Mission  Head  (UN  Special  Representative  of  the  Secretary  General),  FPUs  and  military
            personnel may serve under a combined and centralized chain of command under a senior UNPOL
