If mafia and corruption have become such social evils, only a deep awareness
and collective engagement will be able to eliminate them or, at least, limit their
spreading. All together WE can win.
A paradoxical overturning
In the last decades we have witnessed a paradoxical overturning in the
relationship between ecology and economy, in which the WHOLE, the ecology,
has been subjugated by the part, the economy. Paradoxical because ecology is
the base of economy, it’s the collective vision that should direct financial pro-
cesses towards the common good. The lack of such awareness is likely to result
– as it did – in a destructive economy. Here is the close link between ecological
imbalances and the social inequalities, which are the consequences of an eco-
nomy expecting to apply its own terms to everything, as if life was only a mat-
ter of quantity and not, above all, of quality.
On this occasion I won’t be able to describe the numerous effects of this
process, but they are certainly evident to all of us: the desertification of wide
