union of local administration work must be done to find the right balance.
However putting in place provisions that could bring about the abandonment
of certain areas should be avoided and, if we think about those areas simply in
terms of the economy – not considering what the social costs could be – well,
probably we may not qualify as far sighted.
I think that today should be regarded as a time when we pledge to build a
synergic effort by the international community to protect the environment. I
wanted to offer some additional perspectives, obviously different from the spe-
cific and technical considerations by operators in this sector. Therefore I really
appreciated and I am thankful for your invitation: this means that you wanted
to expand the analysis and the reflections even to spheres that may not be
directly and immediately pertinent to the debate on the environment. It shows
the will to tackle this issue in a very broad way, considering the actions put in
place even by very different sectors as functional in the context of a mosaic that
contains many pieces.
