A summary of the initial recruitment of the Somali military is then offe-
red by the aforementioned publication “The Security Corps of Somalia from
its origins to 31 December 1951” where it is reported that “in the north, the
recruitment was much lower also due to adverse propaganda (in Gallacaio
where a truck of enlisted people was stoned by Darot people but without any
inconvenience except for some wounded. These were determined more than
before to be re-enlisted).
However, the enlistments gave more than enough revenue because the
two Somali battalions were officially constituted as the I Somali Battalion, on
1° April 1950, and the II Somali Battalion, on 15 May 1950”.
