Il Museo Storico dell’Arma dei Carabinieri

Il Museo dell’Arma dei Carabinieri fu istituito a Roma nel 1925, quale ente
morale, all’indomani del primo centenario di vita dell’Arma e dell’epopea
della Grande Guerra, allo scopo di raccogliere e custodire le memorie e i ci-
meli - documenti, uniformi, armi, opere d’arte - relativi alla storia, alle im-
prese, ai valori e agli ideali, all’attività dei Carabinieri in pace e in guerra.
L’attuale sede venne inaugurata il 6 giugno 1937, alla presenza del re
Vittorio Emanuele III, a seguito di una radicale ristrutturazione dello
stabile, ad opera del Genio Militare, su progetto dell’architetto Scipione
Tadolini, in occasione della quale vennero realizzati in particolare il Sa-
lone d’Onore, oggi spazio per mostre ed eventi culturali, e il Sacrario
dedicato ai Caduti.
La visita al Museo si sviluppa in un percorso che, iniziando dai progetti
istitutivi e dalla fondazione del Corpo dei Carabinieri Reali nel 1814,
abbraccia due secoli di storia.

The Carabinieri Museum

The Carabinieri Museum was founded in Rome in 1925 as a moral institution fol-
lowing the first centenary of the establishment of the Carabinieri Corps and the feats
during World War I in order to collect and preserve the memories and artefacts such
as documents, uniforms, arms and artworks related to the history, exploits, values
and ideals, and the activities of the Carabinieri in peace and war.
The current museum building was inaugurated on 6 June 1937 in the presence of
King Victor Emmanuel III, following a radical renovation of the building by archi-
tect Scipio Tadolini. The renovation works, which were carried out by combat engi-
neers, included the creation of the Hall of Honour, which nowadays hosts exhibitions
and cultural events, and the Shrine commemorating the fallen.

The tour of the museum, which begins with the founding projects and the establish-
ment of the Royal Carabinieri Corps in 1814, spans over two centuries of history.
