The closing Ceremony of the "1st FPU Commanders/Senior Staff
Course", took place at the Center of Excellence for Stability
Police Units (CoESPU).
The thirty-four participants representing, Egypt, Jordan, Nepal,
Rwanda, Senegal and Togo were in attendance. The trainees received
specific training, on Robust Police assignments in International
crisis management operations under the UN's aegis.
FPUs are specialized, well-equipped and fully mobile rapid-reaction
police or other law enforcement units of generally one hundred and
twenty-five (125) members each, composed entirely of elements from
one national contingent. They are deployed in United Nations
missions as cohesive units and are self-sustained with support
equipment owned by the contingent.
The lessons were conducted in English, and were administered by
Carabinieri Officers and experts cooperating with the Centre.
In addition to the Director, Brigadier General Umberto Rocca, the
Mobile and Specialized Carabinieri Units Commander, Lieutenant
General Emilio Borghini, the US DOS representative Mr. Michael
Smith, Mr. Dimitri Titov, Assistant Secretary General of Department
of Peacekeeping Operations and several CoESPU's lecturers and
external contributors attended the ceremony at Chinotto Barracks
Headquarters in Vicenza.
The ceremony was concluded after diplomas were given to the
attendees.
