Following up on a "Global Effort" launched the last August 2009
aimed to increase the number of female police officer serving in
the UN peacekeeping missions a workshop was held on 31st May - 4th
June in New York at the UN HQ.
Police gender focal points from UN peace missions, member states
police gender offices from Ireland, Liberia, The Netherlands, New
Zealand and Nigeria as well as EUPOL and CoESPU representatives had
worked for seven days to help develop a "UN Police Standardized
Best Practices Toolkit on Gender and Policing in Peacekeeping
Operations".
On the 4 June, Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon stressed that "by
empowering women within the UN we are not just upholding the
principles for which we stand we makes ourselves a better
organization". |
